Mini Biography


Born in Nice in December 1937, from an English mother and a French father. At four days old, was taken by his parents to the Île du Levant, an island some 15 km off the Côte d’Azur. In 1942 they leave the island and move to Dieulefit. In 1951 Léonard spends two years in Summerhill, the famous school run by A.S. Neill. He studies in Paris, then two years in London at the Central School of Arts and Crafts where he meets his wife-to-be Melinda, with whom he will have seven children. They start latihan in 1957 at Coombe Springs. In 1958, together they start Subud groups in Nice, Marseilles, Carcassonnes. 1960 to 1965, lives in Paris and participates in Subud life there. 1967, Léonard creates an enterprise dealing in interior design and antiques in Tunbridge Wells, where they live for twenty-five years.

Léonard has been active in Subud since he started. As early as 1958 Muhammad Subuh asked him to take part in the spread of the latihan. Did two terms as national and regional helper in the UK and a full period as international helper that took him all over Eastern Europe and Africa. His mother, his grandmother, his sister and his brother, his uncles and one cousin came to practice the latihan. He now lives in the South of France with his wife where he started what he calls an experimental group..
