Mini Biography


Bei Dawei has doctorates in philosophy (from Unisa) and comparative religion (from CIIS). He teaches in the foreign language department of Hsuan Chuang University (Hsinchu, Taiwan), and is now working on a monograph surveying English fiction about Taiwan.

John Quigley's 1966 thriller "The Secret Soldier" contains a subplot about a fictional Subud-like group whose central practice, the parina, appears to be a spoof of the latihan. This article describes in detail this nameless group, and its parallels with Subud.
